In romance drama ‘The Artist’, George Valentin (Jean Dujardin) is a world-famous silent movie superstar.

However, his illustrious career looks set to come to an abrupt end when talking pictures arrive, changing the face of cinema forever. At the same, Peppy Miller (Bérénice Bejo), a struggling young dancer, is catapulted into stardom thanks to her natural ability for the new medium.

I enjoyed this quite 'arty' film especially in the black and white format, though I wouldn't bother seeing it again. It is worth seeing once as it takes us back to a bygone era of cinema.

Artist - strangely enjoyable

As a one off this film wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

The story is interetsting depicting the transition from silent film to talkies and how it affected the film industry at the time. The acting was brilliant but the star of the film is definitely the dog.

Having said this there is definitely no room in modern cinema for silent films.
